Thanks friends with boat.
Reading about redlining in Chicago a few years ago in Ta-nehisi Coates’ article ‘The Case for Reparations’ made me curious to see the HOLC redlining map for Fort Worth. While many other Texas cities’ maps were easily found via google Fort Worth’s was strangely missing. I thought it was unlikely that one didn’t exist but didn’t really have any extra time to spend trying to track it down. Then this week a timely email from @dwellmagazine of all places had a link to an article about the Mapping Inequality project and it includes the Fort Worth map. I think it’s worth a few minutes of everyone’s time to look at these maps and compare them to the current conditions of the neighborhoods shown. Racial segregation of neighborhoods and disinvestment in minority communities weren’t just unfortunate byproducts of free market processes, it was the intent of government policies from the 1930s and the effects of those policies are still very evident today. #mappinginequality
Looking back at my feed I don’t really post design drawings very often. I guess I find construction photos more interesting, and easy to post since I take a lot of photos at job sites, but I’m going to try to mix in some design process drawings more frequently. This is a detail of a schematic design drawing for some backyard improvements to a house in Berkeley #screenedporch #deck #pool #guesthouse
Floors and lights going in at J&M townhomes. Making progress.
The good people at @nearsouthside have started a fund to support our local entertainment and service industry friends that are currently unable to work. Our family was able to make a small contribution. If you are able, please consider donating too at wegetbytogether.com
